Eversource Energy has pioneered a complex 115kV underground substation to improve distribution efficiency and allow for future growth. They collaborated with developers, the city and especially the fire department, their construction, operations and maintenance crews, cable and equipment suppliers and just about every engineering discipline imaginable to include electrical, civil, structural, geotechnical, HVAC/mechanical, plumbing and fire protection, and chemical.
“Wow, this day finally came,” Eversource chief executive Joe Nolan said at a ceremonial groundbreaking last week. “I am on the road quite frequently with our investors, with key decision-makers [and] not a day goes by that I don’t brag about this project. … No one can quite believe that we’re able to do this.”
