The moral of the story is that big transmission takes a long time to route and permit. In that time, needs change and new technologies can emerge. It was a challenge yesterday and looks to be a challenge in the years to come.
Solutions anyone? I like:
- HVDC underground
- shared use of existing civil transportation corridors like highways, canals and railroads.
- offering a small percentage of the annual project revenue to adjacent private landowners for their “buy in”
